Abstract: During the last half century, there has been a rapid development in the field of solid-state electronics, which started with the discovery of the transistor and subsequently was fueled by the integration of many circuit elements onto one semiconductor chip. Magnetic materials, on the other hand, have been developed separately, independently from the semiconductor systems. They have been very important for information storage (tape, disk, magnetooptic disk) and for magnetic circuits.
