Title: CuAAC mediated Bioconjugation: The Rapid & Reliable Alternative to Today's Immobilization Protocols for Improved Hybrid Interfaces

Abstract: During the last decade the copper catalysed azide alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction has demonstrated its potential use in several research areas. The unique combination of properties, such as high specificity, high yields, minute side reactions, bio-orthogonality and the mild reaction conditions, in which the coupling reaction can take place, creates many opportunities for a wide variety of applications. The CuAAC has a lot to offer for surface modification and functionalisation purposes of solid substrates. However, a reliable surface coupling protocol was not yet described and optimised until now. This thesis presents a detailed and versatile protocol, as optimised with real time in situ measurements, being able to modify surfaces with biomolecules using the reproducible CuAAC reaction.
