Title: Exploring Colloidal Properties of Si Based Anode Pastes Towards Better Li-ion Batteries

Abstract: In the field of energy there is a trend of a greater need for energy storage visible. In terms of reversible energy stored Li-ion batteries are a preferred solution. Most research is focused on novel composites of active materials, e.g. replacing graphite with silicon. Yet improvements could also be achieved by optimizing the electrode processing parameters used to fabricate the anode out of the active materials. In this research we demonstrate an improved dispersion quality due to surface chemistry manipulation. The behaviour of the anode paste dispersion was found dependent on the surface of the particles, which can be modified independently of the electrochemical bulk properties. An alumina coating is applied over the particles via deposition of aluminium species. Thus presenting a ceramic surface chemistry. These manipulations resulted in enhanced battery properties on the coincell level. Thus showing that the use of ceramic chemistries can enhance the electrochemical properties.
