Title: Insights in the autoimmunity of myasthenia gravis
Authors: DE BAETS, Marc
Issue Date: 2010
Citation: AUTOIMMUNITY, 43 (5-6). p. 341-343
Abstract: Myasthenia gravis is a prototype anti-receptor autoimmune disease. Antibodies against proteins at the neuromuscular junction cause a defect in the signal transmission from nerve terminal to the damaged postsynaptic membrane. This issue of Autoimmunity reviews the mechanisms that lead to the destruction of the neuromuscular junction and the role of the thymus in myasthenia gravis and its animal models. In addition, this issue explores recent advances in diagnosis and treatment of this disease.
